Developer Bookmarklets

These bookmarklets are targeted at web developers.

To use a bookmarklet, simply click the link (or, if you use Explorer, drag it to another browser window).

To save the bookmarklet, add it to your favorites/bookmarks or drag the link to your desktop. If you use Explorer or Opera you can import all the bookmarklets in one easy operation.

Execute HTML
Sometimes as a web developer you come across a page that shows some script code. You would like to test the code, but there's no link to a working example, and you don't want to create a new HTML document yourself.

Simply select the text you want to execute, run this bookmarklet, and a new window opens up, displaying the result.

To see what I mean, open this link, select the text containing HTML code, and run the bookmarklet on that page.

Note: Opera 7 deselects any selected text when you click a link. This means you must add the bookmarklet to your bookmarks in order for it to work.

Note: NS4 resizes itself so the inner area (the document area) fits the specfied dimensions, while all other browsers resize so the outer area (the entire browser window) fits the dimensions.

Add Stylesheet...
Opens a copy of the current page in a new window. The copy uses an external stylesheet of your choice (in addition to the stylesheets already used), so you can quickly see how the page looks with different styles.

You must modify the constant SSPATH in the bookmarklet to point to your stylesheet file. The file can be located remotely at a server or locally.

Here's an example targeted at this site. It makes the page appear in green and Times New Roman by pointing to 'greenish.css' at this site (Explorer only):
Add Stylesheet - Greenish

Here are some more general stylesheets that may actually be useful (Explorer only):

Add Stylesheet - 125 pct - Set font size to 125%. Here's the stylesheet.

Add Stylesheet - Times New Roman - Set font to 12 pt. Times New Roman. Here's the stylesheet.

Add Stylesheet - Comic Sans MS - Set font to 10 pt. Comic Sans MS (the same as this page). Here's the stylesheet.

Add Stylesheet - Hilited links - Links have gray background when the mouse hovers over them. Here's the stylesheet.
